Hi Chris,
I am afraid I am not 100% sure as to what it is you are asking.. Apparently
an industrial control systems will be developed, and someone involved in
this
undertaking reports that the usual SIL-based safety-standard will not be
used for this particular project. Instead, and I quote, it will be replaced
by ALARP
Now regarding your query
There are already various safety-standards which
do not apply the SIL-concept, but I am sure you are aware of these
So
I
assume
you are interested to find out whether there is any safety-standard for
which the most recent version (still) applies the SIL-concept (or something
similar), and for
which the next update is known to involve scrapping the SIL-concept.
I am not aware of any such development myself but I would be most interested
in the answer to this question. May I ask which standard was used up to now
for
the type of industrial control system you refer to?
Best regards,
Rene

Subject: [SystemSafety] SIL ratings to be scrapped?
Hi all,
I have just been taking to one of my customers who do control systems for
industrial systems. They have been told by someone they are doing a system
for that SIL ratings will soon be scrapped. Apparently It will be
replaced by ALARP. This seems like a completely misunderstood half a
message. Though usually on this sort of thing there is a grain of reality
(if miss reported or miss represented) in there somewhere.
I know I have not been paying attention over the summer but I havent seen
anything. Is there a move on any standard to change from SIL ratings for
projects?
Regards
Chris
