Fork with all these bubbly puritans? Ah Bertrand ... :)

Let me take this opportunity of the discussion about obscenity to contribute some irrelevant information too :)

Obscene people have traditionally not been valued much but they have made their own intellectual contributions throughout the ages. "Sotades of Maronea - the obscene" for instance is an interesting Hellenistic poet of the 3rd century BC who is credited with having invented the whole genre of palindromes. Only 11 verses have been preserved from his work, but he has been known in antiquity to have recast the Homeric epic of the Iliad (over 15,000 lines of code ... erm verses I meant) in obscene palindromic verse.

Regarding the discussion about child safety on the road, I very much agree with Bertrand that it should hardly become a cause for withdrawals from the list. To confuse this issue further I will end my comment with a safety relevant palindrome which might prove controversial: "race fast safe car" :)

peace

The UK Guardian newspaper has an editorial rule that if there is a justification for including a profanity then it will be spelled in full.
That's the policy that I would adopt too, were I setting editorial policy for a journal.
