Let me emphasise John Knight's perennial point that standards may drive certain engineering
enterprise, as Jens makes clear is true in other fields besides the perennial example of
telecommunications, but we are shooting ourselves in the foot if we can't refer to them in
university teaching because of the cost/copyright model.
