Tim Harford, moderately well known as the "Underground Economist", apparently has a new book out on
how automation is affecting our lives in safety-critical applications. Some of it is excerpted here:

It talks about AF447, driverless cars, and "shared space" traffic arrangements now attracting
attention in Northern Europe (Drachten in the Netherlands; Bohmte in Germany not too far from
