Actually 1500m, it used to be a frequency reference at 200kHz derived from an atomic clock, but they changed it to 198kHz - I do not know if it is still a frequency reference at this new frequency.

I believe that the radio signal on LW (198m) is still used to control storage heaters in the UK. If this has ceased, I'd be interested to know when - and anything else the signal is/was used for (other than BBC Radio 4, of course).

Small historical note, I used to work for the Macquarie county council and back in the day (80s) we used to send signals down the line to turn domestic water heaters on and off. Of course when we took a lightning strike on the lines interesting things used to happen.
