I remember noticing at a conference in Delft that John had to climb the
stairs slowly. He later told some of us about his lung problems.

Not that it slowed him down technically. He presented a range of
interesting topics - including impressive work on industrial strength
support for assurance cases.

A serious scientist who will be greatly missed.
