Because aluminium and magnesium alloys have the highest specific strength of metals, even higher
than titanium, and you want panels to weigh as little as possible, in particular if they are a
retrofit to an existing design.

Yes, well, magnesium is worse from a flammability point of view, as any navy person will tell us.
They are surrounded by it as superstructure.
