Succeeds at doing what?

Calming down those people who think something should be done.

Eventually we are all going to catch the coronavirus.
Good discussion about why human catch so many diseases from bats:
https://get21stnight.com/2020/03/30/why-do-we-keep-getting-diseases-from-bats/

The BBC is currently involved in mental gymnastics over why the number of
deaths in the UK is one of the 'worst' in the world.

No analysis pointing out that it's mostly just a case of the people who are going
to die anyway, currently dying at a higher rate in the UK.

Apart from doing our best to keep the infection rate below the ICU capacity
to handle the severe cases, virtue signalling is about all that can be done in
the short term.
