The appeal to authority argument.

There are experimental data driven fields that publish
work that contains great value.

The non-experimentally driven fields hang onto the
coat tails of the reputable fields by having the
quake doctors all publishing in a few journals and all
professing a high regard for each other work (at least
in public).

Pointers to the data underpinning these opinions welcome.
