The York archives have not been available for well over a decade, as far as I know. The York list 
still exists, but gets a message every few months advertising a conference.

Yes.

I had two offers when I thought it might become critical a couple of years ago. The list is low 
profile and essentially zero resource-consumption for the current site, but when an admin issue 
arises (as it did a couple of years ago with related services) it is on the cards for my former 
faculty to choose to dump it.

Mike Parsons suggested hosting the list as a forum at SCSC, which is a good idea for a number of 
reasons, but it didn't go further than preliminary discussion.

Thanks, but that wouldn't work. It's got to be completely public-interest otherwise most current 
members will be required by their company email policies to leave. That was the reason we hosted it 
at Bielefeld starting in 2012, because Uni York moved to Google services and most list members' 
companies had policies concerning commercial services.
