Environmental and Safety Assurance Symposium

The Environmental and Safety Assurance Symposium is the UK Ministry of Defence's flagship acquisition safety and environmental protection event, hosted at the Defence Equipment & Support headquarters in Bristol.  The ESAS 2018 theme is "Disruptive World Challenges": agility in defence safety and environmental decision making.

Topics being considered for ESAS 2018 focus on the effects of disruptive technologies in a disruptive world and include -

 * Autonomous systems
 * The future of regulation - using new technologies to promote safety
 * Safety and sustainability post-Brexit
 * Digital assurance cases
 * Learning lessons from Defence accident investigation
 * Proportionality and complex systems
 * Safe and secure data systems
 * Human factors in the digital world
 * Risk reduction judgement tools and techniques
 * Contracting for safety and sustainability
 * Environmental Defence standard
 * Cyber safe & secure infrastructure
 * Safety of systems using artificial intelligence

The closing date for abstract submissions for papers and workshops has been extended to 30 April 2018. Initially, we are looking for a 250 word abstract, which will be subject to review by an MOD Panel during May. The event is hosted by DE&S in partnership with Atkins and QinetiQ.  Attendance is by registration only.
