I don't want to drag out this disgraceful episode any further but this
cannot be let go.

The idea that in 1979 we voted to remain in the Common Market is one of
the half truths and downright lies that have frightened us out of the EU.

In 1979 I voted to remain. At the time the Government said that the
objectives of the Treaty of Rome, the governing charter of the EU, were:

/To bring together the peoples of //Europe/

//

/To raise living standards and improve working conditions/

//

/To promote growth and world trade/

//

/To help the poorer regions of //Europe//and the rest of the world/

//

/To help maintain peace and freedom/

This is a lot more than a Common Market and was one of the reasons I
voted to remain
